Elsie had to get up by 6am. The house was very busy as all the family were here for the shoot and the Colonel had invited some guests as well.
When Miss Routledge persuaded her to come and help at Lotherton as a housemaid for a while she had not realised how hard the work would be!
First job of the day is to do all the fires downstairs. These big grates take ages to black lead properly.
At least she gets a break for breakfast after that and she can have a wash before going upstairs. Then she has all the bathrooms to do and then there are about ten bedrooms being used so plenty of fires there and think of all the dust they make too! Everything has to be spick and span by lunchtime.
Lunch is a welcome break with a couple of hours off before she starts again. They wil be back from the shoot soon so back to the bathrooms and make sure there are plenty towels and tidy them again each time they are used.
Her final duty is usually to turn down the beds and tidy the bedrooms while everyone is at dinner. But not today! With thirty for dinner and six courses being served, Elsie will be washing up until about midnight.
Never mind! No need to rise tomorrow until 6am ready for another busy day...
