Holocaust survivor Iby Knill was interviewed by Year 10 students from Bradford Academy as part of the Sharing European Memories project, and related her experiences as a young Jewish girl in Czechoslovakia and Hungary during the Second World War.
In June 1944 Iby was transported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, which she later left by volunteering for labour at a hospital unit. Iby was eventually freed by Allied Forces whilst on a march from the camp on Easter Sunday 1945.
Today Iby is a member of the Leeds Holocaust Survivors Friendship Association and continually campaigns to ensure the events of the Holocaust are never forgotten. Iby is featured in a special film produced by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust commemorating the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on 27 January 2010 (see Related Links below)
