Background to the story

Elaine Beach is a volunteer at Calderdale Museum’s Service, where some of the volunteers had the opportunity to attend a My Yorkshire digital storytelling workshop.  One volunteer on the workshop, purely by chance, used some documents about Elaine's uncle’s war service that he had found for her. He produced a wonderful story (The Burnt Papers) and when the opportunity came for Elaine to attend a similar workshop, she decided to base her story on a related item.

Elaine inherited from her two aunts, an old, battered, cardboard attaché case which contained photographs, bills, booklets, wedding invitations, ration books and many other bits and pieces. In an envelope was a square of cotton with a Roll of Honour printed on it which included her uncle’s name. She took this as her starting point for her own digital story - click the Video link below to watch Elaine's story.
