Life Down the Mine

This photo shows a BJD coal cutter at work at Manvers Colliery. It is a 35BB undercutter. Miners used these to cut under the coal face during a shift, the coal was then shot fired to blow a section from the coal face. The photograph was taken for British Jeffrey Diamond, an engineering firm in Wakefield, National Coal Mining Museum for England
